Answer both questions please

true or false

16. The slope of the simple linear regression equation represents the average change in the value of the dependent variable per unit change in the independent variable (X).

True/False

19. When using simple regression analysis, if there is a strong correlation between the independent and dependent variable, then we can conclude that an increase in the value of the independent variable causes an increase in the value of the dependent variable.

Answer #1

The slope of the simple linear regression equation represents the average change in the value of the dependent variable per unit change in the independent variable. The statement is TRUE. The intersection of the two regression lines will calculate the mean value of X and Y variable.

When there is strong correlation between two variables, an increase in the value of independent variable may not mean that the value of dependent variable will increase. The correlation between the two variable may be in opposite direction and an increase in one variable may also lead to decrease in the other variable. This depends on the value of correlation being positive or negative. Thus the statement is False not in entirety but if considered as absolute and spoecific.
