electronic configuration of oxygen is 1s2 2s2 2p4 , there are no d orbitals available for n =2 , shell

so oxygen can only use its P- orbitals to form covalent bonds

wheras sulfur , selenium and tellurium can make use of the available d-orbitals and thereby forms
more covalent bonds and can be able to form XF6 . Oxygen can only form a maximum of 2 covalent bonds and so it forms OF2
