There are many answers to this problem. Here are four partitions.

  1. We can divide students by their respective streams (ex. Engineer , Arts , Medical, etc. }. Let A1equal the set of engineering students and A2 Arts and A3 Medical students. {A1, A2 , A3} is a partition.
  2. We can also partition students by gender. Let M denotes Male students and F denotes Female students.{M , F} is a partition.
  3. We can also separate students by their height. Let Hi denote the subset of students with Height H (in inch) satisfying i-1≤ H < i (inch). {H10, H12, . . . , H80}is a partition. Note that H48 is the set of all students with height of 47 - 48 inches.
  4. At last, we can also categorise students by weather they are wearing specs or not. Let S0 denote the number of students who are wearing specs and let S1 denote all other students . {S0, S1} is a defined partition.
