Hi , I got this question and the answer is below, but I did not really understand the answer can anybody explain it please, Many thanks in advance.2. Why is the energy found here lower than the ground state one?2. The first two derivatives of the wavefunction w are: 1/2 d2 dx2 dx 13 and So, in this case the energy of the system should be zero, lower than the one found for the true ground- state. In this case the variation theorem cannot be applied because the wave function does not satisfy the boundary conditions posed by the system, since ф 1) #0.
