The unemployment rate is a useful measurement because it helps to understand the current state of the economy and the labor market conditions prevailing . The unemployment rate is a useful reflection of labor market conditions and it  helps to know how many individuals in the current labor force are not working. Using the figures available in the unemployment rate, the government can design social welfare programs to help the unemployed and to help them to rejoin the labor force.

Using the unemployment rate figures, the government can gain deeper insights into what is affecting the labor market conditions which will help in making critical decisions to improve the state of the economy.
