DOCTORS RESPONSIBILITIES WITH RESPECT TO CHILD PROTECTION:
Concerns about child abuse raise serious dilemmas for all health and social workers. However, local authorities in child services and the court have the right to make the final decision on how best to protect the child. There are certain principles should all doctors follow to ensure safety of a child.
They are as follows:
a) The Children have the right to be protected from neglect or abuse. The doctors should act on these areas to safeguard a child on any concerns.
b) All doctors should think about the needs and well-being of children.
c) Children are individuals with rights so the doctors must not unfairly treat them against any child for any reasons.
d) The doctors should not reveal any information related to child to others.
a)Every child has the rights for protection from negligence or abuse.
For example : A child cannot be neglected for care if the child behaves very naughty or aggressive .The cannot be abused physically or verbally by the healthcare team when providing care.Here the doctors should act as a guard and oversee the work and ensure every care is delivered to the child.
b)It is the top most necessity of a doctor to provide a child with all needs and well being
For example :A toddler will be in need of toys and games along with the medical treatment. The doctor should see whether this I'd available in tgd hospital or should be provided by the parents
c)A child cannot be treated unfairly by a doctor
For example:A doctor cannot decrease the quality of care provided to a mentally ill child who cannot understand what is being done to them
d)Privacy and Confidentiality is the basic rights of all patients.In case of children the doctor cannot inform the child condition to a stranger
For example : If a child of teenage is sexually active, pregnant or with any sexually transmitted disease, the doctor has the responsibility to inform to the parents and definitely not to a stranger.
