There is a quote commonly attributed to Henry Ford, the Ford Motor Company founder, that he probably didn't say. However, the sentiment is something marketers need to consider. "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses." The quote makes me think of Apple and all of its innovations. Did customers ask for iPod or did they just want a better Walkman? Did customers what a computer in their hand (smartphone) or just a better phone? Yes, feedback is important, but can it stifle innovation? Thoughts
I agree with the statement given. Feedback from people can stifle innovation because the customers are different from the innovators. They have a limitation with regards to their thoughts and cannot think like innovators do.
Hence if the feedback of people is taken it cannot lead to innovative ideas by itself. However the feedback can be used to understand the need of the market and how it can be met.
