Answer #1

1.

Amount required to invest today is equal to present value of future cash inflows at interest rate. Present value can be calculated with following formula -

P = C1(P/F,i%,1) + C2(P/F,i%,2) + .............. Cn(P/F,i%,n)

Thus, to answer question use following model

P = 100(P/F,5%,1) + 150(P/F,5%,3) + 200(P/F,5%,5)

2.

Computation of Amount required to invest today.

E6 丘 :SUM(E3:E5) | cash flow | 1 Year PVF(5%) 100 0.95238095 150 0.8638376 200 0.78352617 95.24 129.58 156.71 381.52 4 Total Present Value

Formula reference -

E6 cash flovw PVF(5% 1/(1+0.05)AB3 1/(1+0.05)AB4 1/(1+0.05)AB5 Year PV -C3*D3 100 150 200 4 -C5*D5 -SUM(E3:E5) Total Present Value

Thus, Amount required to invest today is 381.52
