1) The layer D1 in the given figure of the small intestine is serosa (outermost layer). Layer D2, D3 and D4 are muscularis (circular & longitudinal), submucosa and mucosa respectively.
The thin tissue covering the exterior of the structure is serosa. Nearly all the tissues found in the layer D2 are musclular connective tissue. The layer D3 is primarily of digestive glands but also contains nerves, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. The layer D4 (mucosa) consists of epithelial tissue.
