According to Hardin, people who are working , are employed and pay the tax is being hurt by the New Deal and others who are unemployed and taking the benefits of unemployment benefits are being benefitted. This is because working people slough themselves day and night and pay heavy taxes and umemployed people get the benefit in the form of unemployment benefits without working at all.

Hardin's purpose for writing to Eleanor Roosevelt was to make her aware what was happening in the society and thus to make some changes in the policy in order to make the society better.
