In exponential smoothing, more weightage is given to the recent data values as compared to older data values. This is because we assume that the recent data values are better in prediction as compared to older data values

So, we can say that the exponential smoothing shows us that the  time series components are changing slowly due to which we given higher weightage to recent data values
