A welfare state is one in which the government protects and provides economic and social welfare to all its citizens.The creation of a welfare state say that the focus of the government has shifted from industrialisation and business to looking after the welfare of poor,disabled,elderly, sick ,safety of the children and making effort to stabilize the condition of the children.So the priority of the government underwent a change.

The US government plays an active role in protecting the economic and social well being of its citizens . So the principle of welfare state still hold good today.In the US ,the welfare state looks after universal problems of unemployment,old age , sickness etc.

Eg The health insurance like Medicaid.Medicaid paid health expenses for 9.8 million people. Food stamp is another welfare program.It gives food vouchers to 23 million households.
