Answer #1

Proteins are macromolecules which consists of one or more long chains of amino acid residues.

The main functions of proteins are:

1. Proteins act as enzyme that catalyses many biological reactions involved in life supporting processes.

2. Proteins play an important role in cell signalling and signal transduction.

3. Proteins also take part in immune system. They are the main components of antibodies that bind to antigen and destroy them.

4. Proteins provide structural stability and rigidity to body cells. Elastin and collagen are some of the structural proteins.
