Why is the ABN important to the provider?
ABN is advance beneficiary notice and is given by the doctor or the health care provider to the patient. If the doctor or supplier does give the patient an ABN that the patient sign before he gets the service, and Medicare does not pay for it, then the patient will have to pay the doctor or supplier for it.
ABN is important because it allows the provider to administer the service to the patient even if the service is not covered under medicare. The patient will get the service as well as the provider will get the pay.
