I would consider running for a local office that too for a mayor post. I want to serve my locality and also it will bring me name and fame if I get elected as a mayor in my locality. I can run state office also but the probability of getting elected in a state office will be very low as I am not popular all over the state. But if I can contest in local office the chances of Winning is high because I can take help of my family, Friends and neighbours in my locality to support and campaign for me during elections. Hence I will contest for a local office as Mayor.
In local office also we can run for Sheriff, Mayor, School Board members at City level etc.
