Imagine, just imagine, I am in the mood to give away 7 extra credit points among my (only) 4 students. If all students have the same opportunity to get any of the points, what is the probability that each student gets at least one extra point?
Here let say for each student get x1 ,x2 ,x3 and x4 credit points, so here
x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 = 7
where
x1 ,x2 ,x3 ,x4 >= 0
So total number of possibilities here are as per combinamatrics formula = (7 + 4 -1)C(4-1) = 10C3 = 120
Now, we know that each of the student get atleast one extra point so here there is only three extra point are left for distribution, so if y1,y2 ,y3 and y4 are the extra credit received by the students.
So total number of possibilities here are as per combinamatrics formula = (3 + 4 -1)C(4-1) = 6C3 = 20
so here probability that atleast each student gets at least one extra point = 20/120 = 1/6

Here's a scenario our professor asked us to figure out for extra credit and I am not sure how to set it up or solve: Jeremy has a 64.80% in his class and needs a 70% in order to pass. The grading rubric is made up of three tests equaling 20% of his grade, online homework, which is 15% of his grade, and final exam, which is 25% of the overall grade. Jeremy's three test scores are 68%, 40%, and...
For my PSY230 course, I started a new practice of offering extra credit for making an appointment with the Statistics and Methods Lab. The goal is to help students feel more positive toward statistics through one-on-one assistance and therefore feel more comfortable in the course. In order to see if this new element was effective, I compared results from a statistics attitude survey given to my current class to the existing pool of past statistics attitude surveys from all my...

One stakeholder I identify in the New Jersey City University setting are the professors or teachers. Professor and teachers are at the frontline in the education system and serve an important role in the way education is given to students. As a student I believe professors can encourage and bring out the best in students. Just as I believe professors can bring out the best in student, I believe they can they can bring the worst out of students. From...
