One stakeholder I identify in the New Jersey City University setting are the professors or

teachers. Professor and teachers are at the frontline in the education system and serve an

important role in the way education is given to students. As a student I believe professors can

encourage and bring out the best in students. Just as I believe professors can bring out the best in

student, I believe they can they can bring the worst out of students.

From my own personal experience I have gone through influences from professors that

were life changing in both good and bad ways. Four years ago started my journey in NJCU to

continue my nursing degree. As a mother, wife and nurse, the thought of going back to school at

that time was scary and exciting all in one. My professors fortunately were amazing and were

very encouraging throughout my whole journey. In maybe one occasion I experienced a

professor who was harsh but it all worked out for my good and built me into a greater student.

Professors have a major impact on students whether they know it or not. With that being said

there are some ways to improve lecturing and interaction with students to make a positive

impact. “According to the American Council on education, student success depends largely on

the effectiveness of the faculty member instructing them (2017).

As a student there are some questions I would love to ask the professors for bettering

academia in the NJCU setting. One question would be, “Can school material be individualized

rather than standardized”? “The current trend toward standardized learning — scripted curricula

and prescribed classroom-management routines — is shackling educators around the country and

discouraging talented individuals from joining the field (Strauss, 2016)”. Each individual is

unique in their learning and education journey yet everything is standardized. I am not totally

against standardized education, however it can be problematic when you have a student who is

well able to perform above a standard stick to it only because it’s the curriculum.

Another question I would ask the professors are, “Is there any changes that professors

make after an evaluation from their students?” I ask this because why take the critique if there

won’t be any change. I’ve heard of a professor with terrifying reviews which I’m sure had

negative student evaluations. This particular professor however continued just as he was prior to

the evaluations. I believe taking the critique and evaluating oneself can make the school

environment that much better.

Professors play a very important role in grooming and preparing the student for the real professional life ahead. Quality of instruction can make a significant difference in the learning level ad subsequent performance of a student

The two questions raised in the case are very important.

The curriculum should be standardised because there should be a benchmark that determines the level of study, in line with the best institutions of learning. However, there should be a limited degree of flexibility to which the curriculum can be customised to a learner, so as to make the learning process easier and effective for students with different learning capacities and styles. Still, it should not affect the quality of curriculum, which makes it stand out of the rest.

For a professor, teaching means lifelong learning. One who teaches, however proficient he /she may be, learns something or the other every day. The day he /she stops learning, he can't bring innovation and continuous improvement in his /her quality to do his job. The result is redundancy and the teaching becomes mundane and boring task for him /her. This is the time where it feels like a burden. Teacher should introspect his /her performance every day. It is a part of his /her job to keep learning and disseminating. If a negative review is earned, it should be seen as another opportunity to find out the areas of improvement and self enhancement.
