The Founding Fathers, acknowledging the peculiar and personal nature of religion, wisely set religion on a separate basis in the United States. First Amendment of the Constitution from other forms of speech and observance-mandating strict separation of religion and government in order to guarantee freedom of religion for all individuals and religions. Due largely to the prohibition of government regulation or religious endorsement by the First Amendment, various religions have flourished and flourished in America since the foundation of the republic.

Many claim that the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment does not require separation of religion and government because the word "separation of church and state" does not appear in the First Amendment. And others go further-claiming that a specific religion and religious beliefs are founded on the Constitution and the constitution of our country.

Both claims are incorrect. While it is true that the words ' separation of church and state' do not appear in the Constitution, key founding fathers ' writings, other period documents, and subsequent U.S. statements do not appear in the Constitution. Presidents demonstrate that our government is not focused on any religion, and the founders wanted to separate church and state in order to guarantee religious freedom.

No tax may be levied in any amount, large or small, to support any religious activity or institution, whatever it may be called, or whatever form it may take to teach or practice religion. Neither a state nor the federal government can participate in any religious organization or group's affairs, openly or secretly, and vice versa.
