As healthcare leaders, it is essential that we protect our patient’s data. Define and discuss the different privacy measures organizations can use to protect patient data. When would you use data protection measures? What are the challenges in implementing these measures?

#. Different privacy measures ,an organisation can use to protect patient data are :-

1. Access control

Control measure that monitors and limits that access to documents to those that have a legitimate need to view or make changes to said documents.

2. Administrative safeguard

A healthcare facilities actions, policies, and procedures required as security measures protect patient health information.

3. Audit trail

A technical safeguard for information systems which logs the identity of the person accessing the system, as well as the date and time of the access.

4. Authentication

The means by which the author of an entry into the health record is identified. Authentication maybe a handwritten or electronic signature, or the author's initials.

5. Authorization

A patient's consent to release protected health information.

6. Biometrics

Human characteristics or traits, such a fingerprints, retinal scans, voice recognition, etc., that are used to validate a user's identity upon accessing a system.

7. Breach notification

A requirement of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) whereby all affected parties must be notified if their protected health information has been involved in a security breach.

8. Encryption

A technical safeguard that encodes readable text into a string of different characters that cannot be understood or read by unauthorized persons. Encryption is required for the electronic transmission of protected health information.

9. Firewall

A security feature of computer systems and networks that prevents unauthorized access to a computer network.

#. I would use data protection measures at all time because patients health information is of utmost importance that they provide us by having trust on us of maintaining confidentiality and privacy . So, it's our duty to ensure its protection .

#. Challenges in implementing these measures are :-

- lack of training

- lack of interest

- lack of funds

- lack of staffs
