Answer #1

1. A patient with a methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus infection.

order dose of Cipro 400mg in 200ml D5W

400mg + 200ml = 2mg/ml

So, 200mg of the drug will be on 100ml of D5W

Desire infusion rate 200mg /hr

So, the pump will be set on 100ml per Hour

2. Order dose Kefzol 1gm in 50ml of D5W IVPB over 15 min.

Available tubing has 60gtts/ml, means 60 drops counted as 1 ml (It is a micro drip set)

formula is (Total Volume + Timein Minute) x Dripfactor

(50ml = 15min) x 60gtts = 200gtts/min

Infusion rate will be 200 drops per minute
