The physician orders Orapred 45 mg twice a day for an asthmatic patient who weighs 94 pounds. You have Orapred 15 mg/5 mL. The recommended oral dosage is 0.5 to 2 mg/kg/24 h in divided doses. Maximum dosage is not to exceed 80 mg/24h. a. What is the safe dose range for this patient? b. Is the order safe? c. If the order is safe, how much medication will you administer? d. 1. Here heparin 25000 units dissolved in 250ml of D5

So, 25000units =250ml

1ml =25000/250=100units

Patient need 15ml/hr ie, 100×15=1500units

So, heparin 1500units is given per hour.

2. Recommended dose 0.5-2mg/kg/24hour

Here patient weight in kilograms is 43

If 0.5mg×43kg is 22mg and 2×43is 86mg

So, range is 22mg to 86mg is recommended however in this state should not exceed 80mg

So the patient take 1.75mg/kg ie, 75mg

• Ordered dose is not safe because 45mg twice in a day means total patient required 90mg. (Mentioned not exceed 80mg)

Here 15mg=5ml

45mg=xml

Cross multiplication, 45×5/15=15ml
