Answer #1

Solution :

The formula for calculating the Total Return on an Investment is

Total Return = [ Sale price – Purchase Price – Commission paid ]

Calculation of purchase price:

As per the information given in the question we have

250 shares were purchased for $ 35 per share

Thus purchase price = No. of shares * Price per share

= 250 * $ 35

Thus purchase price = $ 8,750

Calculation of Sale price:

As per the information given in the question we have

250 shares were sold for $ 41 per share

Thus sale price = No. of shares * Sale price per share

= 250 * $ 41

Thus Sale price = $ 10,250

Total commission paid to buy and sell the stock = $ 320

Applying the above information in the formula for total return on Investment we have

= $ 10,250 - $ 8,750 - $ 320

= $ 1,180

Thus the total return on the Investment = $ 1,180
