Summarize a procedure that will allow you to accurately prepare a series of solutions that are the following molar concentration: 0.1, 0.05, 0.025, 0.0125, and 0.00625 from a 0.2 M stock using a certain number of drops of water. Show the calculations for only the most concentrated dilution.

Answer #1

You have the initial solution with a concentration of 0.1 M, then the dilutions are made:

A part of 0.1 M solution is taken and the same amount of water is added to obtain 0.05 M solution.

A part of 0.05 M solution is taken and the same amount of water is added to obtain 0.025 M solution.

The same procedure is performed twice more and the series of solutions at different concentrations is available.

If you liked the answer, please rate it in a positive way, you would help me a lot, thank you.

The Absorbance for the highest concentration of starch is lower than you might have expected. What is the most likely reason for this? The sample was prepared incorrectly and actually has a lower starch concentration than indicated. Not enough Lugols was added, and not all of the starch is being detected. The measurement was made inaccurately, and the Absorbance is probably higher than indicated. Spectrophotometer readings are inaccurate near their maximum value of 2. You have series of starch solutions...
