Self criticism includes how an individual thinks about himself. Many times depression is the reason behind self criticism. There are many types of self criticisms as follows:

Aesthetic Criticism - It is a self criticism on his or her appearance or personality i.e. ugliness, bad fashion style etc. Any physical forces can also be used to create this criticism so it is dangerous.

Logical Criticism - In this, people criticise about their own ideas, arguments, values, talking sense etc. In this case, people assume this without any reason or evidence.

Negative criticism - In this people assume that everything they do is wrong, unacceptable, unreputable. With this, people themselves feel insulted.

Self criticism can come from the thought of being perfect. It is a negative thought  in people of their self identity. It can also originate by comparing ourselves with other people. It can be said that people give punishment to themselves by self criticising.

Self criticism can be a distraction in achieving our goals and targets. Strategies for combating self criticism are:

1. We should pay attention to what our mind is thinking. We should recognise our thinking patterns to have a control on our thoughts.

2. When we dont laugh at the same joke again and again, why do we cry and think about the same problem again and again.

3. What our mind is thinking may not always be true. We should only believe the thoughts which has a supporting evidence to prove it true.

4. We should try to change our negative thoughts into something practical and positive one. A balanced thought is a key to achieve our goals.
