Answer #1

Answer:

Step 1: Explanation

According to Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures in a mixture of non-reacting gases, the total pressure exerted is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases.

Ptotal = P1 + P2 + P3 + P4 + P5 +......+Pn

where,Pn ----> the partial pressure of component n
Ptotal ----> the total pressure of the mixture.

Step 2: Calculation

PO2 = 51.3 kPa

PCO2 =  0.100 kPa

POther gases = 2.30 kPa

PN2 =   191.3 kPa

By using Dalton's Law

PTotal =  PO2 + PCO2 + POther gases  + PN2

PTotal = 51.3 kPa + 0.100 kPa + 2.30 kPa + 191.3 kPa = 245 kPa

Hence, the total pressure is 245 kPa

    Name Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures - Many gas samples are a mixture of gases. For example, air is a mixture of gases. The gases dissolved in blood make up a mixture as well. In a gas mixture, each gas exerts its partial pressure (the specific pressure contribution of the gas to the total pressure of the gas mixture).
