Methodology is a detailed theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a study, including a description of the procedure of study, beginning from data collection to data analysis, and the literature on the method or model used for the study.
For example, you are conducting a study on the relation between employment and inflation in a country. Your methodology then includes the secondary and primary sources of data collection. If primary data, then which sampling technique has been used and which areas are being used for survey and on what basis. If you are using the phillips curve to establish a relation, then a literature on that too is a part of methodology.
Use one concrete example to discuss the typical components of the methodology in empirical research.
1-Differentiate technology from methodology and from method. Can you come up with an example that differentiates these concepts in a specific context, perhaps software development? 2-Name activities in software development covered by various methodologies. Can you explain why more than one methodology is needed in developing a piece of software? 3-Why do we need to gather requirements? 4-When is the best time to gather requirements about a product?

1. Explain why the philosophy of approach is an important aspect of the methodology of Information Systems research. 2. Using an example, discuss two rationales of the literature review and theoretical framework to a piece of Information Systems research. 3. Discuss, with an Information Systems research example, why analysing IS research is not about describing but about explaining. Discuss, with an Information Systems research example, the survey method and compare and contrast three types of sampling. 4.
