Answer #1

(a)

Dependent variable = Happiness index

Independent variables = (i) Gender, (ii) Age, (iii) Marital status, (iv) Income

The linear regression equation is:

happiness index = eta _{0} + 61 Gender + eta _{2} Age + eta _{3} Marital status + eta _{4} Income

(b)

Dependent variable = Number of Traffic fatalities in a state

Independent variables = (i) Miles of highway roads, (ii) Number of people under the age of 18 with a licence,, (iii) Average speed limit on highways, (iv) Number of patrol officers

The linear regression equation is:

Nuber of traffic fatalities = eta _{0} + 61 Miles + eta _{2} People + eta _{3} Speed limit + eta _{4} Patrol officers
