Answer: The depression in the elderly people is mostly underrated. It becomes difficult to assess about the depression and stress among this group of population. It is important to evaluate the depression among geriatric by encouraging them to indulge themselves in conversation. They need to provide counseling. Some of sign and symptoms of depression are:

• Suicidal behavior
• Poor conversation
• Anti social
• Avoid gathering
• Poor eating habits

The antidepressants therapy includes the SSRIs as this has reduced drug interactions. It has been found to be safe drug in the geriatric groups. These drug are sertraline, escitalopram etc. As in the older age many other disease occurs, hence it is important to provide the antidepressants those have less interaction with other drugs.
