Identify this study design: A study examined the effect of obesity and dietary/exercise habits on pre-diabetes among children aged 12-18. Pre-diabetic children were selected and matched with a group of children of the same age who were not diagnosed as pre-diabetic. Researchers measured BMI, dietary intake, and exercise and assessed for differences between the two groups.

Case - control study design is used for this study. As it is identifying the the two groups one group diagnose with pre-diabetes and the other group is not diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Case control study identifies the different groups of cases and the control outcome.
