Line activities are the activities that are directly involved in achieving the major goals of the organizations, which are generally revenues and profits. Line activities are involved in daily operations of a business by selling or producing products or services. Typically these activities are production, marketing and sales. These are essential to the basic operations of a business.
Staff activities generally provide assistance and specialized advice for the line activities. Staff activities include accounting, human resources, maintenance, legal, audits, research etc . Staff activities are support activities.
