The Role and responsibilities of a community pharmacist is to identify and assess the patient condition and dispensing suitable medications for the alignments and diseases, practices quality health care provision with minimal errors following safety standards.

Responsibilities on the day of effective change of PIC
  • Initial step is introducing and orientation of pharmacy, storage and also the safety standards and policies followed to the next Pharmacy In charge.
  • Discussing the in and out flow supply of the pharmacy store of the community with the next in charge.
  • Handing over of indent, distribution, storage and stock registers.
  • Handing over the register related to the equipment in the pharmacy including the furniture.
  • Discuss about the supply provided from stock holders, storage issues, expiry dates and the indent maintained related to the concerned issues.
  • Discuss about the health programmes conducted in the community and the drugs dispensed under that particular programmes.Eg. Maternal and Child Health Programme, MALARIA Eradication programmes, TUBERCULOSIS control programmes, Family planning programmes etc.
  • Handing over the updated registers maintained with drug control authority to District Medical Officer.
  • Getting signatures with Duty Medical Officer and also the next in charge of the received registers.
  • Informing DIRECTORATE of the Medical services about the events and sending a copy of received notes with signatures.
Things need to be done by Pharmacy in charge with in 30 days of effective change

Steps to be followed with in 30 days are as follows.​​​​​​

  • Updating all the concerned stock registers e.g.. Medical camp registers , Medicine registers, Community programmes register , Family planning drugs and supplies register etc.
  • All the actions and objections which are pending should be cleared before the last day.
  • All the stagnant and slow moving drugs which has short span of 10 months enquiry should be verified and a latest updated register must be prepared.
  • Clearing all the stock which are near to expiry i.e. nearer to 1 or 2 months or it must be atleast for 3 months.
  • All the supplies of the main store and the storage details should be verified properly.
  • Improper storage conditioned drugs should be cleared of immediately.
  • All the statements of stagnant, surplus , expiry drugs cost must be secured.
  • All the annual indents from the indenting officer should be verified and cross checked for the signatures before handing over to Duty Medical Officer.
