Solution :

Given that ,

mean = \mu = 13

standard deviation = \sigma = 4

(a)

P(x > 22) = 1 - P(x < 22)

= 1 - P[(x - \mu ) / \sigma < (22 - 13) / 4]

= 1 - P(z < 2.25)

= 1 - 0.9878

= 0.0122

percentage = 1.22%

(b)

P(x > 20) = 1 - P(x < 20)

= 1 - P[(x - \mu ) / \sigma < (20 - 13) / 4]

= 1 - P(z < 1.75)

= 1 - 0.9599

= 0.0401

percentage = 4.01%

(c)

P(x > 19) = 1 - P(x < 19)

= 1 - P[(x - \mu ) / \sigma < (19 - 13) / 4]

= 1 - P(z < 1.5)

= 1 - 0.9332

= 0.0668

percentage = 6.68%

(d)

P(x < 19) = P[(x - \mu ) / \sigma < (19 - 13) / 4]

= P(z < 1.5)

= 0.9332

Percentage = 93.32%

(e)

P(x < 4) = P[(x - \mu ) / \sigma < (4 - 13) / 4]

= P(z < -2.25)

= 0.0122

Percentage = 1.22%

    Q4.22. A researcher is studying the global biogeochemical cycling of a particular nutrient, and she has determined that its storage rate in the oceanic subsystem is -10 Pg y-1. What can she conclude based on this observation? Use the dropdowns below to complete your answer. The oceanic nutrient pool size is A, and because Earth's global biogeochemical cycles are , the size of this nutrient's pools in one or more of Earth's other subsystems (besides the ocean) must also be...

    For a certain law school, the entering students have an average LSAT score of about 700 with a standard deviation of about 40. The smoothed density histogram of the LSAT scores appears to follow a normal distribution. Sketch a smoothed density histogram (a bell-shaped curve) of the distributions for the LSAT scores. (For this problem, draw this on your own paper. You will not need to submit this graph.) Because this distribution is approximately normal, the mean is equal to...

    A researcher suspects that there is a relationship between an individual’s level of impulsiveness is inversely related to their memory. To test this hypothesis, she administers scale measuring impulsiveness and a free recall test, to a group of 12 volunteers. The impulsiveness scale yields a score ranging from 1 to 10, where higher scores indicate greater amounts of impulsiveness. The free recall test is scored in terms of the number of items correctly recalled from a 20 item list The...
