You are the President of the United States and you are being heavily lobbied to let the FDA approve the immediate release of a promising drug onto the market that can potentially cure a disease from which tens of thousands of people die each year. This drug has not yet been certified as fully tested. What factors would you consider in making your decision? Cite appropriate sources to justify the factors you select, such as articles on the various treatments that were proposed during the height of the AIDS epidemic, for example. Be prepared to share your views with peers.
The factors that I would consider before making the decision for making the drug public
1) Negative side effects of the drug should also be considered before taking the decision as so many people will be consuming the drug. So the drug should be tested for any side effects and report is to be submitted before making the drug public.
2) Price at which the drug will be sold in the market is also important because as it is the only drug available in the market the firms will try to take advantage of the situation and raise the prices of drug. So price ceiling should be kept depending on the manufacturing cost of the drug.
3) Supply chain management should also be considered as the drug should be supplied to every part of the country as it can cure a harmful disease. So the manufacturing company should also provide details of the supply chain and it's management.
4) The manufacturer should also make public the detailed procedure of how drug is made as any other firm may come up with a more cost effective way to produce the drug.
To see that people are been able to get drugs I will make necessary arrangements from government side.
