Ethics committee

An ethics committee is a committee formally designated to review and approve the initiation of a clinical research study involving human participants and to provide continue review of the research study.

The responsibility is the ethics committee is to safeguard the rights, safety and well being of individual involved in clinical research.

Institutional board or ethics board act as liason between researchers and ethical guideline in the country.

Composition of Institutional committee

  1. Chairperson
  2. Two person from medical science area
  3. Two clinicians from various institute
  4. One social scientists
  5. Nurse
  6. Social workers
  7. One philosopher
  8. One lay person from community
  9. Member secretary

Duties of ethical committee

  • Conduct regular meeting to discuss ethical issue.
  • Communicating the code of ethics to all members of organization
  • Identify the violation of code of ethics.
  • Punishment who violate the organization 's code of ethics.
  • Reward to maintain ethical behavior.
  • Review and update ethical behavior
  • Safeguard the dignity, rights and well being of participants
  • Avoid harm to the individual
  • Provide written information to participants
  • Informed consent to participants
