Strength based approach:

It is foundation in social work.It is an approach of "Work practice theory" which focuses on an individual for self determination and strength.Strength based approach builds the clients on their strengths,specifically seeing them as resourceful and resilicence when they are any adverse effect conditions.It has unique characteristics to centered an outcome in the future individual set of strengths.It is used in any field outside of social work,it sis called as strength based approach.

These approach will changes positively and affecting each person they can handle their own:

  • Attitude
  • Rights
  • Capacities
  • Similarities
  • Quirks

Practicing strengths based approach:

  • Goal orientation:It is vital for a person to set goals.
  • Strengths assessment:Person find and assess their strength and inherent resources.
  • Resources: Connect resources in the person environment can be helpful the person to create links too these resources.The resources can be institutions,association etc.
  • Different methods are used for different situations:Clients will determine goals and then strengths based on their assessment.
  • The relationship is hope inducing:By finding strength that can be linked with other people,culture or communities.
  • Meaningful choice:Each person is an expert on their strength and resources.It can improve upon choice the person makes and making informed decisions.

Principles of strengths based approach:

  • Everyone should possess a uniqueness that will help him/her to evolve and move along their journey.Potential,strengths and capabilities are the unique characteristics.
  • What receives attention become what the client strive for and eventually becomes a reality.
  • Be careful with your word and language create the client reality.
  • Accept life,change and our world are ever evolving.
  • Support relationships are deeper and more meaningful.
  • Client is the story teller of their own story and build up the dream of the future.
  • Capacity building has multiple facets that is be flexible,be collaborative and be adaptive.

Examples of strength based approach:

  • In this corporate world,many human resources managers will conduct performance appraisal on the employees.These appraisals are benefit the employees such as improved performances,communication opportunities and data on decision making.
  • For certain clients,pursing attention and support is a big task and it should recognized as a strength. For instance,if you help someone who does not have housing that is safe and secure and it is important to build strong relationships with their family and friends.Client should remind them to utilize their resources and their resilience and strength to tackle challenges
