I AGREE that every university student and employee should get an annual flu vaccination. The students and employees should be educated about the disease and its harmful implication on ourselves as well as others near us. To take the vaccination or not would however, be at the sole discretion of one choosing to take it or not.

A lot of people have had experiences in the past due to reactions from vaccination. A vaccine contained dead, live or attenuated disease causing micro organism, which in some people, albeit rarely, could result in a reaction taking place. This has lead to a negative psychology instilled in those affected by it. Such people are unlikely to take the vaccination. Education and awareness should be made amongst these, finally letting them take a call.

In case some students or employees refuse vaccination, provided the number is small i.e less than 2% of the university population, they will be protected by a phenomenon known as Heard Immunity. This basically means protection of the unvaccinated person around a heard of people who are vaccinated. However, This will only occur if about 98% of the target population is vaccinated.
