Answer #1

1. Flexeril

Action: Hinder upper motor neuron activity by working on the brain stem, change spinal reflexes giving rise to CNS depression.

Therapeutic Effect: Relaxes muscles when used to tend pain, injury and muscle spasm.

Most frequent side effects: Drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, and headache.

Nursing interventions:

  • Tell the patient about the frequent side effects and ask them to be alert.
  • Advice them to avoid alcohol and driving too as Flexeril can interfere with concentration and induce drowsiness.
  • Physical activity should be encouraged as this may help to stop the drug.
  • Advice them to inform the physician or nurse if any GI symptoms arise.
