This can be due to inadequate arterial blood supply within 24 hrs post bowel resection.ie signs of ischemia.

This can happen due to inappropriately divided vascular arcade supplying the left colon.

The colonic vessels placed under too much tension can lead to endothelial damage and decreased perfusion.

Excessive tension or delayed thrombosis in the mesenteric vessels adjacent to the ileostomy may be a contributing factor in some patients.
