When you see a person lying on the floor unresponsive, you should not be panic instead you should remember to save the life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) . Inorder to perform the steps remember acronym DRsABC.

D danger

R response

s shout for help

A airway

B breathing

C circulation

1) Danger : check for danger to either yourself or the patient to ensure it is safe to approach.

2)Response: shake and shout for help , as we have an unresponsive patient you need some help

3) Airway : open airway with a head tilt chin lift manoeuvre , look for any visible obstructions

4) Breathing : Look listen and feel for breaths for 10 sec whilst maintaining the head tilt chin lift method

5) Circulation: Locate the carotid pulse and feel for 10’seconds .

DEFIBRILLATION;

it is a treatment  for life threatening cardiac dysthymias specifically ventricular fibrillation and non per fusing ventricular tachycardia. Defibrillator delivers a dose of electric current to the heart .

AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS

it is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnose the life threatening cardiac arrhythmia of ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia and able to treat them through defibrillation. AED are designed to be simple to use for the layperson and the use of AED is taught in many first aid , certified first responders and basic life support level cardio pulmonary resuscitation classes.
