Communication is the process of interaction between two or more people. It can be through language ,signs or symbols. Communication is of two types. They are Verbal communication and Non verbal communication.

Verbal communication is communication through language.

Nonverbal communication is communication through signs, symbols, facial expressions, cues, gestures

Elements of Communication :

• Sender: Who initiates the communication
• Message: The matter that is conveyed to the recipient.
• Channnel: Through which the message is conveyed like letter, phone etc.
• Receiver:The one who receives the message
• Feedback: The reply to the initiation of conversation or it is the response to the message received.

Barriers of Communication :

• Language Barrier
• Physical deformities like hearing or speaking impairment.
• Blindness
• Mentally unstable
• Confused patients

Challenges: The Nurse can face challenges like

• Misinterpretation of the message :The Nurse can ensure that if the patient knows any common language so as to communicate.
• The Nurse can ask help from colleagues if anyone knows the patients' Language
• The Nurse can use non verbal communication to interact with the patient and vice versa
