ESR i.e. erythrocyte sedmentation rate is the desend rate of RBCs in whole blood per hour. Generally in case of inflammation this rate increases.

Three disease/conditions which may have markedly increased ESR results:

a) IBD (inflammatory bowel disease)

b) CKD (Chronic kidney diseases)

c) Rheumatoid arthritis

This increase in ESR can be the diagnostic marker of these above mentioned disease.
