informed consent is the process of understanding the risks and benefits of treatment. for example - doctors give information about a treatment to decide whether to undergo a treatment or not. it is based on the moral and legal premises of the patient autonomy.
there are majorly four components of the informed consent -
DECISION-MAKING
a patient must have the capacity of making his/her decisions about the health and the treatment. it has three components -
if a patient is not able to do all the components then family, guardians can act as surrogate decision-makers.
decision-making menas that a patient can understand and explain the options their consequences and give a valid reason to choose a particular option.
