Transdermal = Trans + Dermal

Trans means transverse, I.e. through some thing.Example -- Transaarterial means through the artery .

Dermal refers to dermis part of the skin,which is the deeper of the two layers ( the other being the epidermis) of the skin.

Transdermal means the transfer of some substance, usually a drug through the dermis of the skin.It is a method of parenteral drug administration because it bypasses the intestinal absorption and is absorbed directly through the dermal venous plexuses.
