A bacteria that tested negative for starch hydrolysis still managed to grow a few colonies on a TSA+Starch agar plate, even though it did not have the enzyme needed to breakdown starch. how is this possible?

Some bacteria mutate themselves according to new environment (resistance in bacteria is best example of it) .As there is no other source of glucose for bacteria to grow on TSA +starch.So some bacteria which are capable of degrading starch ,survive on this media and all other which were not capable of degrading starch ,dies.
