SUMMARY OF THE CASE STUDY"

In this case study, two kinds of conflict handling intentions are mentioned, which have two dimensions. 1) Assertiveness- the degree to which one attenpts to satisfy him or her own concerns) 2) Co-operativeness- the degree to which one party tries to satisfy other party's concerns.

Imagining myself to be Tom- a manager at small copy supply firm, I have two employees in the marketing team, i.e. Janna and Kim. Janna is co-operative in nature and Kim is assertive in nature. Janna is doing tedious and unpleasant tasks and though she is unhappy with the work, she couldn't confront that with Kim. Kim on the other is doing high profile work and receiving appreciations from the C.E.O.

Being a manager, I know that Janna is unhappy. If i tried to divide the work equally, it will disturb the relation between Janna and Kim by leading to conflict. This is because, Kim will not keep quiet being assertive in nature and will behave loud to satisfy her concerns and might fight with Janna. Janna on the other hand, will anyways do the work whether she is happy of unhappy because, she is co-operative and will always thinks about others concerns. I need to be quite as the situation is balanced, though it is disadvantage for Janna, as a conflict is initiated it will spread to other teams also and entire work environment will be collapsed.
