Answer-
Endosperm is a tissue present inside the seeds of most angiosperms. It is generally triploid (3n) which is a result of fertilization of two polar nuclei of cells of embroyonic sac by one sperm nucleus. It acts as food storage for the seed during germination. Developing embryo gets nutrients from endosperm. It helps in transfer of nutrients from mother plant to the embryo. It also contains hormone such as cytokinin which regulate cellular differentiation and embryonic organ formation. In some cases, endosperm also helps in seed dormancy which helps annual plants encounter the effects of year-to year variation in the environment.
in seeds that have an abundance of endosperm, what is the function of the endosperm in...
Question 24 3 pts The seeds of orchids (an angiosperm) are among the smallest known, with virtually no endosperm. What is therefore likely to be true? There is no fruit surrounding the seed. O Double fertilization does not occur in this species. Orchids are not true flowering plants. The developing plant quickly obtains nutrition through photosynthesis or other means. o Orchid pollen grains are unusually large.
Question 31 (1 point) In pea plants, round (R) seeds are dominant to wrinkled (r) seeds. In a genetic cross of two pea plants where one plant is heterozygous for the seed shape trait and the other is homozygous for the recessive (r) trait, what percentage of the offspring would have the wrinkled seed shape? O a) 25% Ob) 100% O c) 50% O d) 75% Question 32 (1 point) In pea plants, green (G) seeds are dominant to yellow...
What is the advantage to a plant to have seeds that undergo a dormancy period before germinating? Seed and fruit dispersal is achieved with the aid of wind, water, animals, mechanical means, and humans. If you were designing a new plant, can you think of any new way in which it might be dispersed? What would you call the plant?
Mendel crossed peas having round seeds and yellow cotyledons (seed leaves) with peas having wrinkled seeds and green cotyledons. All the F1 plants had round seeds with yellow cotyledons. Based on this cross, what is the probability that an organism in the F2 generation will have round seeds and green cotyledons and NOT be true breeding? (Hint: Think carefully about what true breeding means in terms of genotype.)
Need help with reviewing my lab report -- Question on Germinating Seeds Plants and plants have been studied for hundreds of years, dating back to the geological era of the Holocene, which began around 11,700 years ago. How to study its effects was by noting the effects of the plants on humans, i.e. herbal medicine, which is the doctrine of how to use herbs in various ways to promote health. Fast-forward to 1665 and using an early microscope to detect...
The seeds in bush bean pods are each the product of an independent fertilization event. Green seed color is dominant to white seed color in bush beans. If a heterozygous plant with green seeds self-fertilizes, what is the probability that 6 seeds in a single pod of the progeny plant will consist of ... A. 1 green and 5 white seeds? Express your answer to three decimal places (example: 0.123). B. All green seeds? C. At least one white seed?
1. Trace the flow of a sperm cell from the reproductive organ in the male to the point of fertilization in the female by writing the names of the structures it must pass through 2. Progestin minipil or implant, vasectomy, and tubal ligation are the most effective forms of birth control How have these birth control methods affected the infection rate of sexually transmitted diseases? 3. Make a drawing and label the structures of a blastula and gastrula. Different species...
Practice questions.. 12. A population of plants produces seeds which are eaten by ants. The ants select for the seeds which are the largest they can carry (about medium-sized) to maximize the food content. They eat these seeds, and thus destroy them. In the coming generations, what do you think will happen to the seed size in this population? A. The medium sized seeds will become more common B. The largest and smallest seeds will become more common C. Seed...
Jerry’s Seed Palace claims that 80% of its lima bean seeds will germinate. Suppose the company's claim is true. Callie buys a packet with 20 lima bean seeds from Jerry's Seed Palace and plants them in her garden. What is the probability that exactly 14 seeds will getminate?
