Answer #1

When E. coli need to synthesize galactose it transport glucose from outside by pts or phosphotransferase system to inside. It is converted into glucose 6 phosphate and then converted to glucose 1 phosphate. It is converted into udp glucose by the enzyme glucose uridyl transferase by converting UTP to UDP and releasing pyrophosphate(ppi).UDP glucose is then converted into UDP galactose by Epimerase enzyme or do the glycosylation i. e linking of carbohydrates moities to protein.
