Resistors are indicated with color coding and the most common variation present is a 4 band resistor. it have first 2 bands for the resistance value,3rd one is multiplier and 4th one says about tolerance.

For precise measurement of resistors, tolerance band is used and it is useful in identifying which resistor will give you a more accurate resistance value. The smaller the tolerance percentage. the higher the precision of measurement.

Gold tolerance band is 5% tolerance, silver is 10% and no band means 20% tolerance. It means gold tolerance band gives more precise value.
