The nonsense mutations are basically a type of point mutation within the DNA sequence that forms a pre-mature stop codon and terminates the transcribed mRNA. It leads to production of incomplete and truncated product which is non functional. One single base substitution mutation is enough in a particular protein coding sequence to produce the non-sense mutation. It is a type of point mutation which leads to entry of a stop codon and hence leads to stopping of the transcription of the mRNA.
