Answer #1

Solution:

Given that,

\mu = $8500

\bar x = $8800

s = $400

n = 40

The test statisc t is,

= (\bar x -  \mu) /  (s /\sqrtn)

=((8800- 8500) / (400 / \sqrt40)

= (300*  \sqrt40 ) / 400

= 4.74

Test staistic = 4.74

P value = 1

P value >  \alpha

1.000 > 0.05

Do not reject  the null hypothesis

    It is necessary for an automobile producer to estimate the mean number of miles per gallon (mpg) achieved by its cars. Suppose that the sample mean for a random sample of 5050 cars is 2727 mpg and the standard deviation of this sample is 3.63.6 mpg. Now suppose the car producer wants to test the hypothesis that μμ , the mean number of miles per gallon, is 2626 mpg against the alternative hypothesis that it is greater than 2626 mpg....
